You already know about the restaurant next door...the better deal for me is the Deli. It is a bit far from Miami, but the selection here is very good. There are many staples that are dearly missed from the Vaterland, but besides the imports, the selection of home made sausages is really amazing. Try them for your next BBQ and learn that good Sausage does not just come from Argentina and Spain. The Germans can do a thing or two as well.. As for the imports, the prices are actually very reasonable and you may learn a thing or two about the German culture, if interested. Their cuisine is more focused on Bavarian Cuisine, but I will look past that (as a true northerner). Give them a try and don't be surprised if you have to wait for while...the great food and friendly service seems know around town...

Food was good. Had the Weinerschitznel - quite good. Like I had in Vienna. The potato soup was excellent. Nice atmosphere. The waitress was friendly but seemed busy and didn't bring condiments as requested. The service is generally not that good. The bartender was kind of an angry hostile Long Island guy - was not expecting that there. I felt he was going to slug me when I asked for ketchup so I ended up leaving before I finished my meal. I think if the owner trained the staff better it would be a much better experience. Good to see privately owned restaurants that are not part of mega chains out there with unique food and experience. I will probably go back for the food but hope to experience better service.

Finally we found a place that sells authentic German food. From homemade sausages (brattburst, wienerburst, etc) white, red, chops, etc. a very complete charcuterie. You will also find cakes, ingredients, candy, etc. You'll be able to eat sandwich with homemade bread and deli. Yheu have a restaurant right next door if you're looking for a whole meal.

I challenge you to find a better German Deli in the area. They make everything in-house, Bratwurst, Knockwurst, Kielbasa, German Wieners, and even Blood Sausage. The service is fantastic, their mustard selection is freakin' crazy, and the sausages are topnotch, they also have a wide selection of imported items, including spices, sweets, chocolate and even cake mixes from abroad. Try their freshly made German potato salad, spaetzle and of course sauerkraut. The reason why I can't give them 5 stars is because they don't open every day and they are just a bit pricey. Get some stuff from here, cook em up at home and try something different! You won't be disappointed.

My wife and I had a recent vacation to Germany. When we came back to Miami we decided to have a party to show our friends our pictures. We loved the German Sausage so we checked out German delis and went to visit Old Heidelberg in Fort Lauderdale. The counter people were so nice and helpful allowing us to taste items and were knowledgeable on the product. Our party was on Sunday we ordered an assortment of sausages (Bratwurst, Thuringer ,Knockwurst and Kilbasa plus dried salami and Salads and Kraut and Beers to be picked up Saturday afternoon. Everything was properly packed and ready when we arrived. All we did was eat up the sausages and put everything out on the buffet for our guests. Every one loved the food and said the Sauerkraut was the best they ever had. And first time eaters were happy with it as well. I thought it was great. Especially when the guests said my pictures were as good as the food. I am glad I made the trip from Miami.

Located right next door to Old Heidelberg Restaurant is the Old Heidelberg Deli which, though set up as a sandwich shop, in fact serves as more than that. It's a good source of various German foods such as bacons, homemade sausages, European chocolates, hams, cheeses, breads including Bavarian Rye, Nordleander and Kassler, salami, Black Forest Hams and turkey along with a host of other items. I purchased a couple tubes of their "Frische Zwiebel Mettwurst" which is a raw minced but cured pork mixture, the quality of which I found to be very good. The Deli is rather spartan, sort of lacking in atmosphere, absent any significant décor but a decent outlet for German foods.

Great little deli, but very poorly stocked. What they have is great, but there is very little variety. There is a German deli in NYC (Schaller und Weber)... Old Heidelberg should take a lessons from them. Besides sausage and meat products, they have a huge selection of candy, chocolate, condiments, pates, spreads, cheese, shampoo, laundry detergents, softener, beer, wine you name it. Hoping that Old Heidelberg will turn into a local little German Mecca someday. They have the potential.

Schmeckt gut! This is a great little German deli, its only fault being that it's a bit too small. I'd love to see more variety here from various parts of Germany, but they hew pretty close to the fare served in the restaurant next door (more Bavarian than anything and focused mainly on dinner fare). Still, there were several kinds of delicious sausage (including a Weisswurst that was exactly like the ones we had in Germany last year), several prepared dishes like potato salad, red cabbage, and apple streudel. We tried a couple kinds of sausages for our October-fest party and they were all delicious. They also had a couple German beers (though nothing that wowed me into purchasing), a few good cheeses, and many, many sweets and desserts. The service is very kind and friendly and the prices were quite good for things imported from Germany or handmade on site.

This place is so awesome. All the sausage and salami and cheese and crout and bread. Oh my! You gotta try the breaded pork tenderloin.
